Abstrakt

Niniejszy tekst stanowi subiektywny przegląd teorii afektów. Studia nad afektami zaczęły się prężnie rozwijać w wielu dyscyplinach w ostatnich dwóch dekadach, w odpowiedzi na różne problemy i pytania badawcze. Lecz choć wszyscy badacze afektów są zgodni co do tego, że emocje, wzmacniane przez media, przenikają całe nasze życie społeczne i elektryzują nasze ciała, często zamykają się oni w obrębie jednego paradygmatu. W niniejszym artykule staram się powiązać ze sobą kilka na pozór niekompatybilnych nurtów badań nad afektami, prowadzonych w ramach psychologii, studiów kulturowych i medioznawstwa, pokazując punkty styczne między nimi, w nadziei, że takie kompleksowe podejście będzie przydatne w interpretacjach literatury i innych wytworów kultury. Definiując afekty, odnoszę się do praktyki strojenia instrumentów muzycznych do dźwięku wzorcowego, która może stanowić analogię dla sposobu, w jaki afekty rezonują od makro- do mikrorelacji w życiu społecznym.

Dominika Ferens - Uniwersytet Wrocławski, Wydział Filologiczny

Dominika Ferens prowadzi na Uniwersytecie Wrocławskim zajęcia z literatury amerykańskiej i pisania prac naukowych. Stopień doktora uzyskała na Uniwersytecie Kalifornijskim w Los Angeles w 1999 r. a stopień doktora habilitowanego na Uniwersytecie Wrocławskim w 2010 r. Prowadziła zajęcia na uniwersytetach w Niemczech, Rosji i USA. Jej zainteresowania badawcze dotyczą literatury amerykańskich mniejszości etnicznych, pogranicza etnografii i literatury, teorii rasy, płci i seksualności, literatury podróżniczej, oraz literatury popularnej. Jest autorką książek Ways of Knowing Small Places: Intersections of American Literature and Ethnography since the 1960s (Wrocław University Press, 2010) i Edith and Winnifred Eaton: Chinatown Missions and Japanese Romances (University of Illinois Press, 2002). W latach 2011-2014 pełniła funkcję prezesem Polskiego Towarzystwa Studiów Amerykanistycznych. Od 2006 r. jest współredaktorką elektronicznego czasopisma naukowego InterAlia.
